Day 1: welcome
Pick up of a rented car at the airport of Ancona or Pescara. To arrive at the hotel near Montemonaco it takes about 2 hours. It is in a position that can only be described as fantastic. Check-in with a welcome-drink. Dinner with specialties of the Marche.
Day 2: The Gola dell’Infernaccio
In the heart of the National Park you climb into the Hell Canyon, in Italian Gola dell’Infernaccio, where the Tenna River dug its bed through towering limestone cliffs (time to go 4 hours, +/- 180 m). This gorge is considered to be the most impressive of the entire region. If the weather is fine you should have a picnic at the small church of San Leonardo. In the afternoon you can make a little excursion to the end of the world, to Foce, where you can make a walk among centuries-old trees, surrounded by the highest peaks of the Sibillini mountains. (ca. 1 hour, +/- 50 m). Dinner in the hotel.
Day 3: The lunar landscape
Drive in the morning to Forca Canapine. There, at a refugio, you will park the car and start the easy but amazing itinerary to the Pantani, (the ponds) of Accumolì, a jewel in incredibly impressive landscape at about 1,600 m above sea level. Nature lovers will find their paradise here, especially in May and June, because the botany of this area exceeds all expectations. In this part of the national park you will also find the point where three regions of Italy border on each other: Marche, Umbria and Lazio. Surprises guaranteed! For having lunch, you should go on in direction Norcia/Castelluccio to arrive at Castelluccio. In the afternoon, a hike over the Piano Grande is to recommend as you will find a sea of wild tulips and narcissus in May and all kind of flowers in June. The car can be parked along the road

Day 4: Nature creates sculptures
Today starts with a slightly longer journey (about 1 hour), but also ends with impressive experiences. You drive first to the dam of the Fiastra Lake, from where you start the beautiful hike to the Lame
Rosse. The path leads through small forests and ends before the magnificent formations of the Lame Rosse, which had been formed from sand. After this natural work of art, you take the same way back. As recommendation for lunch: the Osteria del Lago, a small restaurant in Fiastra, 50 m from the lake. By the way: the owner is a truffle finder! That promises a lot … It is nice to take a walk along the lake (about 45 minutes each, 50 meters difference of level). before we return to the country hotel.
Total walking time approx. 4,0 hours for arrive at the Lame rosse and return to the car, difference in altitude approx. 300 m
Day 5: The ways of day laborers
You start this morning at Altino, not far away from the hotel (5 km). Here you leave the car for a hike that leads through the most diverse landscapes. You will pass through beech and chestnut forests and vast meadows, with plains alternating with hills, but everywhere you will see the view of Mount Vettore, the highest mountain of the Marche, at the foot of which winds its way.
The path will take you to the Holy fountain. Over this fountain, just 50 m away, you find the ruins of S. Maria in Pantano. From here you move downwards to Colle and from there to Balzo di Montegallo. Here you will have an organized transfer back to Altino to take your car.
Walking time ca. 3,5 hours, +/- 300 m of difference in altitude, many ups and downs
Alternatively: hike over the Ambro valley, one of the most impressive valleys of the Sibillini mountains. The panoramic trail with a wealth of flowers and many wild orchids (spring) leads downhill along an ancient pilgrim path and offers you the most magnificent views at your feet, starting at Campolungo. By an organized transfer you will be brought to this starting point. Your car will be parked at Piedivalle where the walk ends.
The unspoiled nature of this trail gives this hike a special charm. The final point is the oldest Marian pilgrimage church in Italy, Madonna dell’Ambro, set against the backdrop of the impressive peaks of the Sibillini. In the afternoon, visit this beautiful church. Lunch in a quaint little restaurant.

Total walking time: approx. 3.0 hours, total height difference: 500 m, mainly downhill
Day 6: The magic Sibilla
You arrive by car at the Rifugio 1546 where the trail starts. The first 200 m are to climb up to Mt. Zampa. From here on you have to follow the crest which slowly uphill brings you to the rock tied. This rocky belt has a height of +/- 4 m, but it is easy to climb up as there are ropes to give assistance. Among these rocks and the summit, you will find the grotto of the Sibilla which scrolled 40 years ago but the legends of the Sibilla will always live. From the top of that mystic mountain you will have an incredible view over the Piceno, the Southern part of the Marche. On the horizon the blue of the Adriatic Sea, around you the marvellous mountains and under you the small middle-aged towns. Enjoy a picknick here in this wonderful part of the world an hear – the silence!
You can take the same way back to the rifugio or take the other side of the Sibilla which will you also bring back to the parked car.
In the evening enjoy the last dinner with the incredible panoramic view.
