French on the northern side of the Pyrenees, Spanish on the south side, the Basque Country is the most secret of paradises, come from nowhere and speaking an unknown language. Each step taken on this land of Euskadi, plunges us into its history that goes so far back that no one can recount it. It is made of ocean, mountains and pastures; folklore, myths and traditions. For the pleasure of eye and heart, you will travel the prettiest villages of the Northern Basque Country from Ascain to Saint Jean Pied de Port.

Programma
D 1 : ASCAIN : welcome at the railway station of Saint Jean de Luz, transfer to Ascain (6 km – 3.7 miles) at the foot of the Rhune.
D 2 : ASCAIN – SARE / 4h30 hike. Climbing the Rhune, mythical mountain of the Basque Country. Your steps will cross those of the pottoks (wild horses) before reaching the summit from where you will benefit from a vast 360° panorama over the 7 Basque provinces. Then down to Sare.
D 3 : SARE – DANCHARIA / 4.3 hour hike. Via the "redoutes" path.
D 4 : AINHOA - DANCHARIA – ITXASSOU / 5h30 hike. Passing by the Pic du Mondarrain, “Pas de Roland” a very narrow passage said, in the legend, to have been carved by a stoke of the Durandal sword.
Arrival in the picturesque village of Itxassou.
D 5 : ITXASSOU – ESPELETTE – ITXASSOU : 4h30 hike.
D 6 : BIDARRAY – BAIGORRI / 6 hour hike. Via the impressive ridges of Iparla or via the plain depending on weather conditions…Arrival in the village of Saint Etienne de Baigorri, nestled in the folds of a pastoral valley and which succeeded in retaining the marks of its past.
D 7 : BAIGORRI – SAINT JEAN PIED DE PORT / 5 hours hike. Last lap through the vineyards of Irouleguy, smallest vineyard of France and Europe. Arrival in Saint Jean de Pied de Port who’s history is closely linked to the pilgrims on their way to Saint Jacques de Compostelle.
