The signposting of walks

To better understand the philosophy of the “Maison de la Randonnée – GTA – Belgique” it might help to clarify the GTA label. It’s an abbreviation of “Grande Traversée des Ardennes” (Great Crossing of the Ardennes) that identifies the creation of GTA itineraries, the conceiving of GTA activities and the signposting logos accredited by the Walloon Region in matters of circulation in and out of the forest.
GTA – Belgium also reminds us of the French partner “La Grande Traversée des Alpes” that is integrated in an international network of promotion of rambling “Cimes – GTA” that includes numerous kilometers of signposted paths as well as gites and refuges.

The placing on the terrain of signs (ranging-poles, simple directional markers, complete direction markers) is authorized upon permission granted by the Commissariat General au Tourisme whose decision is based on the introduction of a specific file concerning signposting. (authorization of passage and signposting).
This is an exclusive move towards quality, a token of quality for signposted itineraries. The GTA label and the CGT accreditation, bear witness to the coherence of these itineraries as opposed to the network of signposted itineraries in general, to the pertinence of the attractive character of the paths and country lanes (varied landscapes, natural and historical curiosities)
