Granada, its nature parks and picturesque Moorish villages: an ideal site for hikers, the dream of all "aficionao" of Andalusian culture and a paradise for nature lovers...The walking itineraries in the Sierra Nevada, the Sierra de Huetor and the Sierra de Baza reveal the roof of the Iberian peninsula.Our stay in the fascinating city of Granada will reveal not only the jewels of the Moorish architecture but also the unique ambiance of its bars or tapas terraces...and the magic of night life. This circuit is an ideal link with the stay in the Sierra de Cazorla-Segura.

Program

D1: Transfer from Málaga to Pampaneira (2 nights).

D2: Walking in the Monte de Pampaneira and Tahá de Pitres where the Moorish
village structure remains unchanged, each having its washhouse and network
of empedrado footpaths. +550m - paths.

D3: On the transhumance paths through the Juviles gorge to the lost hamlets of Tímar and Nieles and the ancient cinnabar mines. +400m - paths. East through the Alpujarras via the 2000m high Puerto de la Ragua pass to La Calahorra for the night.

D4: Visit to La Calahorra castle: fortress outside and palace within, then via the Parque Natural Sierra de Huétor (centre for injured raptors) to the house in Fuentevaqueros where Federico García Lorca was born. Arrival in Granada (4 nights); free time for shopping or to stroll around the city.

D5: The Vereda de la Estrella path along the lush Genil gorge, with superb views of the famous trio of 11,000 ft summits. Possibility to bathe in the torrent pools. +500m.

D6: Exploration of the lower city of Granada and the Albayzín, historically the most important quarter of the city, retaining something of a "village" atmosphere.

D7: The Sierra Nevada is not generally associated with limestone scenery:
nevertheless there are such peaks on its northwest side (nearest Granada), including the Arenales del Trevenque, with fascinating alpine plants and the chance to see ibex, eagles and ocellated lizards. +500m - panoramic ridge path and a rambla. Afternoon in the fabulous Alhambra and Generalife palaces.


D8: Transfer to Málaga.
