During the stage you will continue in this beautiful plain, entering in the area of the typical gastronomy of Parma, the area of the cooperative of the Culatello, the characteristic and precious gastronomic product of the town of Zibello. Overnight in Colorno (Parma).
D 3: Colorno (PR) – Parma – Canali (RE) 56 or 72 km
Starting from Colorno, in a few kilometres you will arrive in Parma. This city has a very important historical city centre that preserves some jewels of architecture, such as the Cathedral from the 11th century and the Baptistery, one of the most important medieval monuments in Italy. Parma is also the hometown of the festival of Giuseppe Verdi, and the capital city of Italian opera. In the second part of the day you will bike long little country roads, sometimes very flat, typical of the Po Valley, and sometimes slightly hilly. This is the perfect environment for the maturing of the Prosciutto di Parma, that you absolutely have to taste. Overnight in Canali (Reggio Emilia).
D 4: Canali (RE) – Reggio Emilia – Carpi (MO) 48 km
Starting from the farmhouse of Canali, you will soon reach Reggio Emilia, where you will find another beautiful historical city centre, with several buildings dating back from 5th and 6th centuries. You are in the hometown of the worldly famous cheese Parmigiano Reggiano. From Reggio Emilia, on little country roads, among cultivated fields and a perfectly flat landscape you will cross the vineyards of the typical wine Lambrusco. Then, you will reach Carpi, where you can admire the beautiful Castle of the 15th century and the wonderful Square, the third biggest square in Italy. Overnight in Carpi.
D 5: Carpi (MO) – Modena – Monteveglio (BO) 64km
Today you will continue on the bike path towards Modena. This is the hometown of the precious Aceto Balsamico, the tasty Zampone, and the Prosciutto di Modena. The cathedral of Modena is a masterpiece of Romanic architecture, it belongs to the Unesco world heritage, and it is absolutely worth visiting. Then, a nice bike path, among the vineyards of the typical Lambrusco di Castelvetro, will lead you to the city of Vignola, where, in spring, you can admire the flowering of the cherry trees. Vignola has a very beautiful castle, but every village in this area preserves the remains of little fortresses, which were part of a defensive system in the Late Middleage. You then arrive in Monteveglio, where you can visit the remains of the abbey and the beautiful park.
D 6: Monteveglio – Bologna – train to Ferrara - S. Egidio 47 km
From Monteveglio, in a short stage among the hills and along a beautiful bike path, we will descend towards Bologna. Bologna is the capital of the region and it is famous for its gastronomy, and particularly for its home-made pasta, such as the “tortellini” and the “lasagne alla bolognese”. This city preserves great lines of arcades decorating the streets. In Piazza Maggiore you can find the wonderful and imposing Gothic Cathedral of San Petronio and the two towers, symbols of the city, dating back from 12th century. In the afternoon train to Ferrara, a city where everybody goes by bike. Do not miss the Estense Castle with its moat, and the beautiful Cathedral of 1100. Overnight in Sant’ Egidio, near Ferrara.

After the Valley of the Po Delta, crossing the wonderful pinewood of San Vitale, you will reach Ravenna. Ravenna is a wonderful city, the city of mosaics.
